I don’t know if it’s this graph, or Jim Bunning blocking unemployment benefits,  or the handle of Jack Daniels I drank last night, but I find myself deeply depressed. And this video of Christopher Hitchens embarrassing a Creationist in front of a live audience made me smile. So I decided to share it with you. Why? Because I’m a nice guy, that’s why.

Ah, a newbie to the acid-tongued Hitch! A world of delights awaits you, my friend, especially many of his polemics against the religionists, in written and audio/visual media. Of the latter of which, see this one, too:

    An absolute classic, that one!

HOWEVER, if I may issue a caution, when it comes to the consumption of all things Hitch: the problem with Hitch is that as exceptional as he can be on certain issues, on others, he is DEAD WRONG, and at his worst can be among the wrongest of the wrong.

The most infamous case in point of the unpleasantness lurking behind Door #2 is that Hitch was among the most forceful, arrogant and hysterical supporters of the invasion of Iraq. He was, for a period, one of the most ardent and shameless apologists for the Bush Administration.

I still love the guy when he’s at his best. He used to have a column in The Nation magazine, back when The Nation seemed to take good writing somewhat seriously. The Left, which he’s since partially/mostly/completely abandoned (depending on your definition) could really use some writers and debaters with Hitch’s flair.
