Particularly when their misdirected resentment, self-pity and righteous indignation are so pressurized that they begin to taunt and scream at a sick person. Not only does their sheer nastiness give the lie to their hysterical sense of possessing the moral high-ground, but it confirms in spectacular fashion that they are doing absolutely no thinking of any kind; neither politically nor tactically: they walked right into the most glaringly obvious public-relations trap you could imagine.

Of course, you knew they would, which is sad in and of itself. The guy surely knew it, too, which shows genuine courage.
