President Obama’s speech on the gulf oil disaster may have gone over the heads of many in his audience, according to an analysis of the 18-minute talk released Wednesday.

Tuesday night’s speech from the Oval Office of the White House was written to a 9.8 grade level, said Paul J.J. Payack, president of Global Language Monitor. The Austin, Texas-based company analyzes and catalogues trends in word usage and word choice and their impact on culture.

Though the president used slightly less than four sentences per paragraph, his 19.8 words per sentence “added some difficulty for his target audience,” Payack said.

Obama’s nearly 10th-grade-level rating was the highest of any of his major speeches and well above the Grade 7.4 of his 2008 “Yes, we can” victory speech, which many consider his best effort, Payack said.

“The scores indicate that this was not Obama at his best, especially when attempting to make an emotional connection to the American people,” he added.

For fuck’s sake this shit is depressing, but I guess it explains why Glee is so popular.

Once again Wall Street has played us for fools:

The financial reform legislation making its way through Congress has Wall Street executives privately relieved that the bill does not do more to fundamentally change how the industry does business.

Despite the outcry from lobbyists and warnings from conservative Republicans that the legislation will choke economic growth, bankers and many analysts think that the bill approved by the Senate last week will reduce Wall Street’s profits but leave its size and power largely intact. Industry officials are also hopeful that several of the most punitive provisions can be softened before it is signed into law.

“If you talk to anyone privately, there’s a sigh of relief,” said one veteran investment banker who insisted on anonymity because of the delicacy of the issue. “It’ll crimp the profit pool initially by 15 or 20 percent and increase oversight and compliance costs, but there’s no breakup of any institution or onerous new taxes.”

Still, it could have been worse. The Senate rejected rules that would have broken up huge banks considered “too big to fail,” or imposed limits on their size. Caps on how much banks can charge credit card holders to borrow also fell by the wayside. And the long-established wall between trading and commercial banking, which was torn down in 1999, will not be going back up.

Another reason for relief, several bankers said, is that neither the Senate version of the bill nor the one passed by the House in December includes more populist provisions that have gained a foothold in Europe, like a tax on financial transactions or on individual bonuses.

You really didn’t think any meaningful reform was going to happen, did you? I mean, the Obama administration and key Democrats have been pretty clear about not wanting to upset their pimps. So you should just be grateful that these worthless rules will pass.

I wonder what the over/under is on how many people will get thrown in jail for smoking marijuana during Obama’s presidency. Do you think he’ll throw more people in jail than Bill Clinton, because I don’t think so. Clinton’s presidency was the 90′s Chicago Bulls of marijuana arrests. That administration had a superstar in Bill Clinton, a star that rode the superstar’s coattails in Al Gore, an underrated workhorse in Janet Reno, and a scrappy white guy that would do whatever he was asked in Barry McCaffrey.

The Obama administration doesn’t that that kind of roster. The best this administration can hope for is a 2000 – 2004 Lakers run. I mean, they have a young future superstar in Barack Obama, a fading superstar in Hillary Clinton, a quiet team player in Eric Holder, and a trashing talking clutch player in Joe Biden. So I see about 400,000 to 550,000 marijuana arrests during Obama’s presidency.

Goddamn, did I just use a sports analogy to compare Clinton’s administration to Obama’s? I really need to stop getting so hi…drunk in the morning.

Last week, White House officials quietly approached leading financial firms seeking formal letters of support for a Congressional overhaul of financial regulations. One Wall Street powerhouse was left off the list: Goldman Sachs.

Given the government’s lawsuit against Goldman, “the message,” said a financial industry executive involved in the discussions about the White House solicitation, “was that Goldman’s opinion doesn’t matter and that it would be negative if Goldman was supportive of what we were doing.”

Can you imagine White House officials approaching rapists seeking formal letters of support for tougher rape laws? What about approaching murders seeking formal letters of support for tougher murder laws? Or approaching drug users seeking formal letters of support for tougher drug laws?

Fuck no.

Then why the hell does our government feel the need to ask Wall Street for their permission to pass tougher financial laws?

Oh, I see. It all makes sense now.

In Pakistan:

The Obama administration plans to spend nearly $50 million on Pakistani media this year to reverse anti-American sentiments and raise awareness of projects aimed at improving quality of life, confirms a Washington insider.

The US Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke believes that a substantial amount of monies spent on media- especially private TV channels will reduce tension and may even bring Pakistan-US relations back on the right path.

That’s right, the Obama administration is spending taxpayers’ money on propaganda in a country we aren’t at war with. Well, the Obama administration says we aren’t at war with, but don’t tell that to the families of the three dead U.S. special forces soldiers.

But this doesn’t surprise me, because what the Obama administration is doing is taking the propaganda model the Bush administration used during the lead up to the Iraq war and using it on the Pakistanis.

What does surprise me is the 1.45 billion the Obama administration is giving the Pakistan government to help with their economic troubles:

Reuters today reported that the Obama administration has sent lawmakers a plan for funding water, energy and other projects. Report said the US intends to spend $1.45 billion of earmarked for the Kerry-Lugar bill in fiscal 2010.

The Obama administration plans to help Pakistan’s democratic government meet budget shortfalls and deliver services to a population increasingly angry about economic and security troubles. As the funding builds the capacity of the government to provide basic services, the US sponsored Pakistani media will raise awareness and a build a brand for America, our sources have confirmed.

Could someone help me understand how this president is a socialist, Marxist, commie? Because I thought Socialism, Marxism, and Communism used taxpayers’ money to create services and programs for the taxpayers; not use taxpayers’ money to create services and programs for people in foreign countries.

The Obama administration and state insurance officials pressured Anthem Blue Cross on Monday to justify its decision to raise rates by as much as 39 percent for thousands of outraged and frustrated California customers.

The Obama administration and Poizner’s office were prompted to act after Anthem members with individual policies – those who are not covered through employer-sponsored or group plans – were told last week that they would have to pay premiums up to 39 percent higher than their current rates. The Woodland Hills (Los Angeles County) company would not say how many people will be affected, but Anthem has as many as 800,000 individual policyholders – more than any other for-profit insurer – in the state.

“These extraordinary increases are up to 15 times faster than inflation and threaten to make health care unaffordable for hundreds of thousands of Californians, many of whom are already struggling to make ends meet in a difficult economy,” Sebelius wrote, adding that WellPoint earned $2.7 billion in the last quarter of 2009 alone.

Anthem, for its part, said higher medical costs as well as a smaller pool of members to absorb the risk made raising rates necessary.

“Unfortunately, in the weak economy many people who do not have health conditions are forgoing buying insurance,” the company wrote in a statement Monday responding to Sebelius’ letter. “This leaves fewer people, often with significantly greater medical needs, in the insured pool. We regret the impact this has on our members.”

Don’t you love how Anthem blames the people who don’t buy insurance for the 39 percent premium increase? I do. And so does Obama.
