Bullet Train
Today’s post comes from  Politicus.us.  If you don’t visit that site, I hope the next time your mother sucks off a donkey your father catches her.

Despite the fact that the United States still has the largest rail network in the world, unlike many other developed and even undeveloped countries, our passenger rail service leaves a whole lot to be desired, mainly because it is more profitable for the railroads to carry freight, rather than people.

Besides relatively small, regional commuter rail lines and some specialty tourist and sightseeing trains, government subsidized Amtrak remains the only real passenger option in the U.S.

For decades now the world has been marveling at the Japanese “Bullet Trains” and later at the French TGV, both very fast – albeit a bit expensive – but very, attractive alternatives to air travel, cars and buses.

A few years ago, Shanghai was the first to implement a German-developed magnetic levitation train on a route, between the city and its airport. With a maximum speed of 431km/h, or 267 miles per hour, it takes only eight minutes to complete the 30km trip.

One of these trains would be just the ticket for the Washington-New York-Boston route. The problem with the so-called Northeast Corridor (NEC) is the fact that it happens to be a very curvy route, not allowing very high speeds, without complete rebuilding. That of course would not only be very expensive (and we never, ever want to spend money on something useful) and would probably require the acquisition of numerous rights of way, demolition of existing structures and so forth.

Although sections of the NEC have been rebuilt and upgraded, the route still wouldn’t allow speeds even remotely approaching the Japanese, French, or German/Chinese trains.

It was therefore decided to procure tilting train sets, which could use the existing tracks, while achieving greater speeds by tilting the trains inwards on the turns. The Canadian consortium Bombardier has won the $611-million contract with its design, originally termed the “American Flyer”, which later became Amtrak’s “Acela” brand. The trains are capable of 240 km/h, or 150 mph speeds. Some upgraded sections of track actually allow such speeds on the straightaways. This of course is well below the above-mentioned Japanese and French trains and in a completely different category than the Shanghai maglev set up.

The real problem is that the Acela trains were actually built four inches (10cm) wider than they should, reducing the permissible tilt on the turns from 6.5 to 4.2 degrees, effectively reducing the speed on large sections of the Northeast Corridor. At issue is basically the fact that it has been determined that a more pronounced tilt, at a higher speed could be dangerous if two trains were traveling in opposite directions on the same turn.

That said: we still do not have a viable, fast and affordable train service on the very busy Washington-New York-Boston route. Driving takes at least nine hours. Taking a plane has become nightmarish because of the security regulations, overly large airports, which are too often very inconveniently located. The airlines are notoriously unreliable as of late. As a matter of fact, it is a rarity when a plane departs and arrives on time on any route.

The latest, humongous “stimulus” plan does provide a trickle for “investigating” high speed rail to the tune of about $8 billion. I wouldn’t be surprised that this was included thanks to Vice President Biden, who has been a regular Amtrak commuter for many years. But why the hell haven’t we investigated it years ago? How long will it take before the U.S. – a country with the world’s largest rail network will finally enable its inhabitants to travel by rail in comfort, speed and safety and in an environmentally sound way?

He was right after all...

He was right after all...

Surprise, surprise

The federal government will provide $13.4 billion in loans to Detroit automakers, the White House said Friday.

“Allowing the U.S. auto industry to collapse is not a responsible course of action,” President Bush said Friday morning.

“The terms and conditions of the financing provided by the Treasury Department will facilitate restructuring of our domestic auto industry, prevent disorderly bankruptcies during a time of economic difficulty, and protect the taxpayer by ensuring that only financially viable firms receive financing,” according to a statement released by the White House. [Ed. - What the fuck does this mean?]

Why is everyone surprised about this?  You knew this was going to happen.  The automakers only had to answer two important questions: Are you white? and Are you rich?

They answered both of them correctly so now they’re getting a ‘loan’.  This isn’t new.  We did it for the banks and we are going to do it for the credit card companies.  We will continue to hand rich, white people money because we are a nation of pussies.

The people in Washington know that.  That’s why they gave our money to their friends.  That’s why they gave themselves a raise.  They know we are nothing but big, fat, hairless twats.

And nothing is going to change.  So just bend over and take it like a man.  And if you need any help, ask the Blacks and Latinos, they’ve been fucked in the ass for years….

James Moore published an article on the Huffington Post, ripping John McCain for this stock market thingy.  I personally don’t understand what the big deal is.  If Bill O’ Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh say the economy is fine then it’s fine.  Those guys have never lied before and I’m sure they wouldn’t start now.  In the article Moore speaks thing about some scandal John McCain was in during the late 80′s.  I don’t remember it so I think he’s lying.

The S and L scandal, which may look precious when compared to our present cascade of problems, isn’t hard to understand, either. But it is impossible to take John McCain seriously on our current financial Armageddon since he was dabbling in the historic collapse of 747 S&Ls that occurred during Ronald Reagan’s era. In the early 80s under the Republican president, congress deregulated the savings and loan industry in much the same way that Gramm made sure there were no laws hindering our current financial malefactors on Wall Street. S&Ls simply lobbied until they had less regulation and then began making rampant, unsound investments.

McCain and four other US senators (known to history as the Keating Five) met with Edwin Gray, then chairman of the FHLBB. McCain had been hesitant to attend but had reportedly been called a “wimp” behind his back by Keating. The message to the FHLBB and Gray from the Keating Five was to lay off Lincoln and cool the investigation. Gray and the FHLBB did not relent but Lincoln stayed in business until 1989 when it collapsed with the rest of the S&L industry. The life savings of more than 20,000 elderly investors disappeared with the failure of Lincoln. Keating went to prison for five years.

Wait a minute there buddy, did you just say that John McCain was called a “wimp”? You’re talking about the POW John McCain? The guy who got his ass kicked for five years because he was an American? The man who wouldn’t leave earlier because the people who were captured before him weren’t allowed to leave? They called that guy a “wimp”?

See that’s how I know you’re lying in this article.  Anyone with half a brain knows that McCain did this on purpose. Why?  Because murder would be too quick (and it is still illegal….unless you are the state of Texas) McCain wanted them to be ridiculed in the public for calling him a wimp and messing up the economy was the only way for him to do this.

What about the American people you ask? Collateral damage.

Nobody is safe when John McCain is called a wimp.  Even God.  He can turn Lot’s wife into salt for watching fire rain down from the sky but He can’t give someone a mere cold for calling John McCain a wimp?

Where were you at this time Big Man?  You only get this pass once.  Don’t don’t f*ck up again.

Slap hands...slap hands

Slap hands...slap hands

The Daily Banter is reporting a story of how Former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee called McCain’s Vice President Nominee Sarah Palin a “cocky wacko”. There is also an article on CNN about the “cut down”:

Former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee was known for keeping a low-key profile on Capitol Hill, but the Republican -turned -Independent is making waves with his exceedingly blunt comments on newly-minted Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin:

She’s a “cocky wacko,” he told a Washington think tank earlier this week.

Woah, woah, woah…tanks can think? Why do we even have tanks in Washington? Are we about to be attacked? Damnit…instead of coming up with an awful cut down for Palin (seriously….cocky wacko), Lincoln Chafee should of told the American people to watch out for thinking tanks. Once again the American people are the last to know.
